CHEYENNE, Wyoming – Local hunger relief organizations are ready to fill hungry mouths after scenic hikes this coming fall.

On October 5, Meals on Wheels of Cheyenne will host its third annual Hike for Hunger event to raise awareness about food insecurity while enjoying a day in Wyoming's nature. The outdoor day will take place at Hynds Lodge and Amphitheater, just north of Curt Gowdy State Park, at 1360 Hynds Lodge Road.

Hikers will walk a half-mile along the Beaver Creek Trail with an experienced guide. The bands Avenue and Sarah Slaton & the Great Maybe will perform while visitors can enjoy games, visit informational booths and enjoy lunch courtesy of Meals on Wheels of Cheyenne.

The Cheyenne organization is hosting the outdoor event in partnership with other local hunger relief nonprofits, including Needs Inc., LCCC Food Pantry and the University of Wyoming Food Pantry. The goal of the event is to raise awareness about food insecurity as the state is currently facing a “food crisis,” said Kristen-Erin Balderaz, executive director of Needs, Inc.
