Man sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after fatal fentanyl overdose of Beaverton woman

PORTLAND, Oregon (KPTV) – A Hillsboro man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after giving fentanyl to a young woman who died of an overdose.

On Wednesday, 35-year-old Robert Lamart James McCollum was sentenced to 125 months in a federal prison and five years of probation.

“This defendant ended an innocent life and brought unimaginable tragedy to a local family. And despite everything they went through, Madolyn's loved ones have used their experiences to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and counterfeit pills. Their efforts inspire us all and will surely prevent other families from experiencing the same tragedy,” said Natalie Wight, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon.

According to court documents, on August 2, 2021, McCollum sold counterfeit oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl to Madolyn, a 20-year-old woman from Beaverton, Oregon. Later that evening, Madolyn took one of the counterfeit pills and suffered a fatal overdose from acute fentanyl poisoning. Shortly thereafter, investigators posing as the young woman contacted McCollum and arranged an order for more oxycodone pills. McCollum was arrested when he arrived to complete the sale. When investigators searched his car, they found more counterfeit pills and a gun.
