Eleven years after the brutal murder of a pregnant mother in Brown County, there have been no arrests

GEORGETOWN, Ohio – Heavy rains lashed dozens of people gathered along Route 68 on Wednesday to mourn the loss of Brittany Stykes, a pregnant mother of a months-old daughter.

In the crowd were people from across Brown County, representatives from the sheriff's office and Stykes' parents – Mary and David Dodson.

Stykes was shot dead in 2013 just a few meters from where a cross with her name now stands on the side of the road.

The Dodsons have been mourning the death of their daughter on August 28 for 11 years. They know that the man who killed her and her unborn child and shot their 18-month-old daughter Aubrey in the head is still at large.

“We need those answers,” Mary said. “We need those answers for ourselves, but we also need those answers for Aubrey. She's 12 now, and one day she might ask us what we think. Well, we'd like some answers.”

The Dodsons said they became increasingly frustrated with investigators' lack of answers as the case became more murky.

“It's hard for me to comprehend that this was the perfect crime, that there is no evidence, that there is nothing,” David said.

Mary said they were not alone in their desperate search for a killer, as Wednesday's meeting showed.

“Everyone in the community still wants to know what happened to Brittany,” she said.

Brown County Sheriff Gordon Ellis said the case remains open in the department.

“We will never stop investigating this case,” Ellis said.

Ellis said the department recently followed up on leads related to Stykes' case, but declined to elaborate. He said the leads are still critical to finding a killer and acknowledged the family's frustration.

“We continue to follow up on all leads we receive,” he said.

Ellis said there is still a $50,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in Stykes' murder.
