Driver convicted in connection with fatal shooting of 9-year-old girl

TOMORROW AT 1:00 AM. ALSO NEW TONIGHT: THE HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER IN A FATAL DRIVE-BY SHOOTING IN SILVERTON WILL SERVE THREE AND A HALF YEARS IN PRISON. THE SHOOTING OCCURRED IN JULY OF LAST YEAR. DEMARIO WILLIAMS IS ONE OF THREE MEN CHARGED IN CONNECTION WITH THE SHOOTING. NINE-YEAR-OLD MAYA BARTON PICKENS WAS KILLED AFTER NEARLY 30 BULLETS WERE FIRED AT HER GRANDMOTHER'S HOUSE. THE GUNNER THEN LEAD POLICE ON A CHASE THAT ENDED IN AN ACCIDENT. WILLIAMS WAS THE DRIVER AND PLEDGED GUILTY IN JUNE. CHARGES AGAINST THE OTHER TWO MEN IN THE CASE, QUASIM DIXON AND RYAN BROWN, ARE STILL PENDING.

Driver convicted in connection with fatal shooting of 9-year-old girl

One of the men charged in connection with the shooting of a 9-year-old girl in Silverton last year has been sentenced to prison. Demario Williams, 23, is charged in connection with a car crash that occurred “on or about” July 11, a day after the fatal shooting of 9-year-old Da'Myiah Barton-Pickens. Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey said Williams was arrested and charged in connection with Barton-Pickens' death. The sheriff added that Williams allegedly tried to help Qasseem Dixon and Ryan Brown cover up the murder. Records show Williams was involved in an accident at the intersection of West Galbraith Road and Daly Road in which Williams' vehicle struck another as he entered the intersection on a red light. According to the documents, Dixon, who is charged with Barton-Pickens' aggravated murder, was in Williams' car and suffered serious physical injuries. Williams was charged with assault with a vehicle, tampering with evidence, carrying a concealed weapon and failure to stop. This week, Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers announced that Williams was sentenced to three and a half years in prison by the Ohio Department of Corrections.
