Prehistoric manatee was killed by prehistoric crocodile and then torn apart by a tiger shark

Scientists have uncovered the fossilized remains of a prehistoric manatee that was likely killed by a prehistoric crocodile and then eaten by a tiger shark.

The skeleton, discovered in northern Venezuela, is a rare example of an animal being hunted by two different predators during the early to middle Miocene (23 to 11.6 million years ago). Although fossils can show whether one animal was preyed on by another, it is often difficult to tell the difference between active hunting and scavenging.
