Butte College official arrested for child pornography

A Magalia man was arrested Wednesday. He is accused of possessing and distributing images and a video of child pornography, the Butte County Sheriff's Office said. The man arrested was employed as a campus police officer at Butte College, the sheriff's office said. Officials said Allen Charles, 47, was arrested after a two-month investigation. Investigators determined he had distributed child pornography on multiple occasions between 2019 and 2023. The sheriff's office said investigators arrested Charles at his residence Wednesday morning. They also searched his residence and found additional evidence related to the investigation, officials said. Charles was booked into the Butte County Jail. Butte College said Charles has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation. “We are fully cooperating with the sheriff's office during the investigation,” a college spokesperson said in a statement. “The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. Because this is an ongoing personnel investigation, we cannot provide any further details at this time.” The sheriff's office said the investigation is ongoing. A Magalia man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of possessing and distributing images and a video of child pornography, the Butte County Sheriff's Office said.

The man arrested was employed as a campus police officer at Butte College, the sheriff's office said.

Officials said 47-year-old Allen Charles was arrested after a two-month investigation. Investigators found he distributed child pornography on multiple occasions between 2019 and 2023.

The sheriff's office said detectives arrested Charles at his home Wednesday morning. They also searched his home and found additional evidence related to the investigation, officials said. Charles was booked into the Butte County Jail.

Butte College said Charles has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

“We are cooperating fully with the Sheriff's Office during the investigation,” a college spokesperson said in a statement. “The safety and well-being of our students and staff remains our highest priority. Because this is an ongoing personnel investigation, we cannot provide any further details at this time.”
