Warzone will undergo massive changes with the release of Black Ops 6

Activision recently hosted Call of Duty NEXT, a show designed to showcase the future of the COD ecosystem. During the show, numerous changes coming to Warzone over the next few months were revealed, with a major overhaul coming with the release of Black Ops 6 in late October.

The team revealed a new small-scale map, Area 99, and confirmed that Verdansk will return as a large-scale map in 2025. But there are some major changes coming elsewhere as well.

Read on to learn all about the upcoming changes in Warzone.

Refreshing

Area 99 promises to be an exciting, fast-paced map for those who like a bit of Resurgence. It's a “nuclear-themed” map with a nuclear power plant at its center, which ties it in quite nicely with Black Ops' Nuketown map.

When Black Ops 6 launches on October 25, Warzone will be gearing up for a ton of updates, including the introduction of the new “Omnimovement” mechanic that will be introduced with the next iteration of the Black Ops series. As you might expect, all of the weapons and most gear from Black Ops 6 will carry over to Warzone as well.

Since the “Carry Forward” mechanism is being used this time, the teams at Activision will be porting almost every weapon from MWII and MWIII into the latest version of Warzone.

In terms of weapons, players can now bring a melee weapon into Warzone as a third choice. In terms of perks, users can choose three perks to enter Warzone with, as well as a “wildcard,” which hasn't been seen in the Call of Duty ecosystem for several years. It's the first time in Warzone's five-year history that wildcards will be available.

For those looking to complete everything, Activision will be adding more challenges to Warzone to give players something to work towards. The selection of challenges includes Weapon Mastery tasks, Crosshair Challenges, and Dark Ops Calling Card challenges, the nature of which is still being kept secret.

But there is more

But that is not the end of it.

Raven Software has announced that the backpack mechanic will be removed from the game and inventory management will be stripped back to basics. Everything from money to your armor plates will be kept in one easy-to-access menu, making cumbersome backpacks a thing of the past.

However, the satchels are back. If you pick them up, you either increase your armor plate storage or Your ammunition capacity.

Raven has also optimized many of the game's mechanics related to movement and quality of life features. For example, the use of ziplines and climbing aids has been significantly optimized and the live ping duration has been reduced so that markers no longer obscure your view.

Finally, it has been confirmed that the first season of Black Ops 6 and Warzone, coming later this year, will bring Battle Royale Ranked Play, which is good news for the more competitive players on the platform.
