Mental health exam ordered for man accused of murdering Hawaiian woman in Seattle

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The defense attorney for the man accused of killing a Hawaii woman in Seattle believes his client is not competent to stand trial.

A judge ordered Andy Chu to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

“I don't think he is capable of understanding today's charges or the criminal proceedings he is going through,” Chu's defense attorney said.

“I was unable to have a coherent conversation with him in which he could have helped me defend myself.”

According to officials, he is accused of killing his girlfriend Zoey He, a graduate of McKinley High School.

Chu told police that he strangled and drowned him in a bathtub in his apartment earlier this month.

According to officials, a large ball was also stuck in her throat.

Chu is being held on $5 million bail.

The results of his evaluation will be announced at his next court hearing on September 17.
