Arrest in connection with the death of two Britons in Sweden

Swedish authorities have arrested a person in connection with the deaths of two British nationals who were found in a burnt-out car in Malmö in July.

The public prosecutor's office is holding the man on suspicion of aiding and abetting murder.

Farooq Abdulrazak, 37, and Juan Cifuentes, 33, from north London were found in the body of a Toyota Rav 4 on July 14.

Swedish police had previously stated that both men were shot before their car was set on fire.

The couple had been reported missing after failing to return home from a business trip.

Swedish prosecutors said investigations into the couple's deaths were ongoing in both Sweden and the UK.

The prosecution believes that Mr Abdulrazak and Mr Cifuentes rented the vehicle at an airport in Denmark a few hours before their bodies were discovered in the Fosie industrial area in Malmö.

Magnus Pettersson, head of preliminary investigations in Sweden, said prosecutors have until September 1 to decide whether or not the suspect can remain in custody.

The families of both men said they were “truly devastated” to lose “two beautiful, innocent, hard-working souls.”

Their deaths have had a “profound impact on our local community,” the families added.

Mr Abdulrazak's family described him as “a beautiful, selfless, humble soul” and “a great pillar of our family and community”.

Mr Cifuentes was “a pillar of strength and compassion,” his family said.

“His legacy lives on in his children, who embody the love and values he instilled in them,” they added.
