Crabs are prepared and eaten in many different ways around the world. Some species are eaten whole, including the shell, such as the soft-shell crab; other species have only the claws or legs eaten. The latter is especially common with larger crabs, such as the snow crab.

In some regions, spices enhance the dining experience. In Southeast Asia and the Indosphere, masala crab and chili crab are examples of highly spiced dishes.
