I will lock up Mark Zuckerberg if he interferes in the US election

During the 2020 election campaign, the tech giant blocked ads alleging voter fraud and later banned groups like Stop the Steal. Trump was banned after the Jan. 6 riots on Capitol Hill before his account was unblocked two years later.

Facebook has since changed its policies and now allows ads that contain unsubstantiated claims by Trump and his supporters that the 2020 election was rigged.

Mr Zuckerberg said he would not make any financial contributions during the 2024 election. In the letter, he said: “My goal is to be neutral and not to play a role one way or the other.”

Zuckerberg had previously admitted before a US committee that Facebook had been “pressured multiple times” by the Joe Biden administration to block disinformation about Covid-19, adding that calls for censorship of content were false.

In a letter to Congress, he also added that Facebook should not have retrospectively downgraded a damaging New York Post article about Joe Biden's son Hunter because of allegations that it may have been part of a Russian disinformation campaign.

“It has since been clarified that the reporting was not Russian disinformation,” Zuckerberg said, adding that the company has since changed its policies.
