According to officials, the Piscataqua River Bridge is closed in both directions

The Maine Turnpike Authority says the Piscataqua River Bridge is closed in both directions. Authorities say the bridge is closed due to an incident. Motorists are expected to experience heavy traffic in the area between the New Hampshire Line and Exit 7. A report was received by Maine's Total Coverage newsroom just before 2:50 a.m. Thursday morning. WMTW's sister station, WMUR, confirmed this is an ongoing incident and troopers are on the scene when contacted by New Hampshire State Police. A Turnpike Authority spokesperson says the bridge was closed due to a 911 call about an incident that may have occurred in New Hampshire. Motorists should avoid the area if possible. The Maine Turnpike Authority says traffic is being detoured at Exit 2. Traffic beyond Exit 2 is being detoured to exit the Turnpike. Maine State Police say the duration of the closure is currently unknown. York Police advise motorists to use Route 1 to get into New Hampshire this morning. However, as of 6:30 a.m., there was significant congestion and delays on Route 1 in Kittery, and traffic was at a standstill south of the Turnpike Exit 2 ramp. Traffic was very slow until the Portsmouth New Hampshire roundabout, where traffic was also very slow. This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
