Maine State Police say the duration of the closure is currently unknown. York Police advise motorists to use Route 1 to get into New Hampshire this morning. However, as of 6:30 a.m., there was significant congestion and delays on Route 1 in Kittery, and traffic was at a standstill south of the Turnpike Exit 2 ramp. Shortly before 2:50 a.m. Thursday morning, a report was received by Total Coverage's newsroom in Maine.

WMTW's sister station WMUR confirmed, based on information from the New Hampshire State Police, that this was a current incident and that police were on site.

A Turnpike Authority spokesman said the bridge was closed due to an emergency call about an incident in New Hampshire.

Drivers should avoid the area if possible. The Maine Turnpike Authority says traffic is being detoured at Exit 2. Traffic beyond Exit 2 is being rerouted to exit the turnpike.
