These practices, which have little to nothing to do with traditional psychological treatments, aim to “reform” individuals through discipline and suffering. The youths sent there by their parents range in age from 8 to 18. These parents report being overwhelmed by their growing children, citing problems ranging from learning disabilities to substance abuse, social media addiction, anxiety disorders, depression or a sexual orientation they find unacceptable.
