Police kill man on I-95 bridge in Portsmouth after two more people are killed

PORTSMOUTH — Authorities in New Hampshire and Maine say police shot and killed a man on the Piscataqua River Bridge on Interstate 95 Thursday morning after a woman and an 8-year-old child died.

The bridge, which connects Portsmouth and Kittery, Maine, has been closed during the investigation while officials from the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office and the New Hampshire State Police work with the Maine Attorney General's Office and the Maine State Police in the investigation.

Authorities say a man killed a woman in a Troy, New Hampshire, home overnight and then drove to the I-95 bridge. On the bridge, police found the dead 8-year-old child shot to death in the man's vehicle, officials said.

The names of the people involved were not initially disclosed by the authorities.

There is no danger to the public, officials said. Traffic has been diverted to the other two local bridges and motorists are advised to take alternate routes, police said.

The Maine Attorney General is investigating the police officer-involved shooting incident, officials said.
