AG: Police shot dead man suspected of killing woman; child's body found in vehicle

A man suspected of killing a woman overnight in Troy was shot and killed by police 100 miles away. The body of a child was found in his car after an encounter on the Piscataqua River Bridge on the border between Portsmouth and Kittery, Maine, on Thursday.

“Early this morning, an incident occurred involving the adult male on the bridge that resulted in the man being fatally shot. The Maine Attorney General's office is currently investigating this police officer-involved shooting incident.

“Police on the bridge also found an 8-year-old child who had been shot in the adult man's vehicle. The exact circumstances of this incident remain under investigation,” the press release said.

There is currently no danger to the population, the press release said. Formella did not name those involved.

The I-95 Piscataqua River Bridge remains closed in both directions due to the ongoing investigation. Traffic is currently being diverted to the other two bridges in the area. Motorists are asked to use alternate routes.

Further information will be released as soon as it becomes available, while maintaining the integrity of the investigation, the press release said.
