Barcelona prepares new contract for Marc Bernal after knee injury

Barcelona are reportedly preparing a new contract for midfielder Marc Bernal after the youngster was diagnosed with a season-ending knee injury on Wednesday.

This is what Toni Juanmartí from SPORTS Diarywho reports that the club wants to extend Bernal's contract – which was recently extended until 2026 – until 2029 to show their support and confidence in the player.

The Barcelona Bernal is seen as a key factor for the club's future and the report says they will meet with the player's agents in the coming weeks to discuss the terms of a new contract, which would come into effect once Bernal turns 18 next summer.

Barça attempted to sign Stefan Bajcetic on a season-long loan from Liverpool on Wednesday to replace Bernal for the 2024-25 season, but lost the race to RB Salzburg and will have little replacement in that position until Frenkie de Jong and Gavi return from injuries in the autumn.
