Cyclist dies after accident in Glendale

A 66-year-old man was hit by a car early Thursday morning, Glendale police officials said.

GLENDALE, Arizona – A 66-year-old man died Thursday morning after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle, Glendale police officials said.

The accident reportedly occurred shortly after 4 a.m. near 51st and Glendale Avenue. Emergency responders found the man with serious and life-threatening injuries, police said.

He was taken to hospital where he later died.

Police have closed the southbound road between the intersections of 51st and Glendale Avenue and 51st and Maryland Avenue for the investigation. There is no information on when the road will reopen.

The driver reported the accident and police do not believe that the driver's impairment played a role.

The man's identity was not disclosed.
