Pittsylvania County man found guilty in fatal 2022 shooting

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A Gretna man was found guilty Wednesday in the 2022 shooting death of a man, according to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

Daniel Wayne Neal, 30, was found guilty by a Pittsylvania County jury of first-degree murder, burglary and use of a firearm in the commission of a serious crime, officials say.

On February 11, 2022, a man was found dead in Gretna after being shot in a home on Boxwood Road, officials said.

The victim was later identified as Charles Van Hooker, 51. The relationship between Neal and Hooker was not disclosed.

The date for Neal's sentencing has not yet been set.
