Brothers receive 30-year prison sentence for Horry County double murder

A judge sentenced two brothers to prison after a Horry County jury found them guilty of a double murder in May 2022, according to a news release from the office of 15th District Attorney Jimmy Richardson.

Nasirea Brewnoplis Grate, 22, and Dajon Malik Grate, 20, both of Longs, were sentenced Wednesday after a trial that began Aug. 19.

After nearly three hours of deliberations Wednesday night, the jury convicted the Grate brothers of manslaughter, the release said. They were both charged and prosecuted for murder in the shooting deaths of 19-year-old Kalik Conn of the Longs area and 20-year-old Jeremiah Dicker of Columbia. Richardson's release said the men were found shot to death on Highway 554 near the Red Bluff intersection on May 31, 2022.

Both men were sentenced to 30 years in prison for the victims' deaths. They must serve at least 85% of their sentences before being eligible for parole.

A third defendant, Todd Allen Fry, 19, of Conway, was also charged in connection with the shooting, but pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting armed robbery on Aug. 12 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison during that hearing. Fry must also serve at least 85% of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
