Joe Douglas on Haason Reddick: Let's come here and talk about the contract

Jets general manager Joe Douglas said at a press conference on Thursday: “nothing has changed“ on the team’s view on the situation with edge rusher Haason Reddick.

The Jets signed Reddick in the offseason and he reported briefly to the team before skipping mandatory minicamp, training camp and the preseason to get a new contract. Reddick eventually demanded a trade, but the Jets said they would not consider a trade and Douglas said Thursday that remains the case.

Douglas said that both sides had discussed an extension at the time of the trade and the team is open to resuming those talks once Reddick submits his report. Douglas stated that he is not willing to do things differently because that would set a precedent.

“Let's come here and talk then… I don't have the benefit of dealing with just one person and one agent,” Douglas said. “A lot of decisions you make will reverberate in the locker room and have a ripple effect. To me, that is and will always be the most important thing.”

Douglas answered several questions about Reddick, saying several times that he has a lot of respect for Reddick and his representatives, while also saying that the team will welcome Reddick with open arms. However, the question of whether Reddick will ever join the team remains open a week before the start of the season.
