GEORGE COUNTY, Mississippi (WLOX) – George County School District athletic director Chris West was arrested Thursday morning on child pornography charges.

According to the George County Sheriff's Office, the GCSO and the Mississippi Attorney General's Office executed a search warrant on West's residence on Thursday.

West, 51, is accused of possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography.

West is currently being held at the George County Regional Correctional Facility.

After an initial appearance before a George County Court judge, West was granted a $50,000 commercial bond on each charge, bringing the total commercial bonds to $100,000.

“We remain committed to supporting the ongoing investigation and ensuring justice is served,” George County Sheriff Mitchell Mixon said in a press release.

“The George County School District was just notified of the allegations against Chris West and is fully cooperating with law enforcement in this matter. The safety and well-being of our students is always our top concern. As with any personnel matter, we cannot comment on the specifics of the situation at this time,” said Wade Whiteny, George County School District Superintendent of Education.

The investigation is being led by the Mississippi Attorney General's Office.
