Otsego County man charged with murder in domestic incident

GAYLORD – An Otsego County man has been charged with murder, according to a statement from Michigan State Police.

According to the statement, on August 27 at approximately 8:15 p.m., Gaylord Post Officers and Otsego County Sheriff's Department officers responded to a residence in Elmira Twp. where a domestic dispute involving gunshots occurred.

The suspect, 25-year-old Kyle Karsten, was arrested near a barn.

The 57-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Karsten was booked into the Otsego County Jail without incident.
The investigation is still ongoing.

Karsten was arraigned on murder (death) charges in District Court 87-A on August 28, 2024.

Bail was set at $350,000 cash/surety. Karsten's next court date is September 5th at 1:30 p.m.
