Eleven people hospitalised after reports of chlorine leak at London swimming pool | London

Eleven people, including nine children, were taken to hospital after a chlorine leak was reported at a swimming pool in London, emergency services said.

Two adults were also taken to hospital following the incident at the Everyone Active sports centre in Wembley.

Police said the leisure center had been evacuated as a precaution and roads were closed.

London Ambulance Service said on Thursday: “We were called to a chlorine leak on Watford Road in Wembley at 1.34pm today. We have dispatched multiple emergency services to the scene, including ambulance crews, emergency responders and members of our hazardous area team.

“We treated nine children and two adults on site before taking them all to hospital.”

The Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 1.40pm on Thursday 29 August to reports of a chlorine leak at a swimming pool on Watford Road in Wembley. Officers, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade are at the scene.”

The leak was discovered in the apprentices' swimming pool on the ground floor of the three-storey building and firefighters were on the scene for about two hours, the London Fire Brigade said.

It continues: “Emergency crews searched the property and discovered a chlorine leak in an inexperienced swimming pool on the ground floor of the three-story building. Firefighters ventilated the area and monitored smoke levels until elevated levels were no longer observed.

“Around 150 people left the building before the fire service arrived. The fire service was called at 1.42pm and the incident was over for firefighters by 3.43pm. Two fire engines, two fire rescue units and around 20 firefighters from Northolt, Wembley and Euston fire stations attended the scene.”

A statement on the Vale Farm Sports Centre website said the swimming pool “will remain closed until further notice”.
