Man arrested after machete attack

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – A Sioux City man was arrested on a warrant early Thursday morning.

On Thursday, August 29, at approximately 12:02 a.m., Sioux City police officers arrested 30-year-old Talon Freemont and charged him with assault with a dangerous weapon. The charge follows an alleged incident that occurred in early June.

According to court documents, Freemont entered a home on 17th Street in Sioux City on Sunday, June 9. According to the documents, Freemont approached a woman who was sleeping on the couch while he was inside the home.

Officers say when Freemont approached the woman, he allegedly began striking the victim with a machete and claimed she took money from Freemont. Sioux City Police say the machete caused the victim bruising to her right eye, right side of her face, chin and the right side of her left knee.

According to the documents, neither Freemont nor the victim lived in the house at the time of the incident.

Freemont was remanded to the Woodbury County Jail on $5,000 bail.

Officials say a protective order was entered into between Freemont and the woman involved. Any violation of a protective order can result in up to six years in prison and a $500 fine, according to Sioux City authorities.

According to court documents, Freemont has been scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at the Law Enforcement Center in Sioux City.
