Man and woman plead not guilty in death of Blount County foster child

Not guilty. That was the plea of ​​two people charged with felony assault on a foster child. Mason and Brooklyn Grimes were in court Thursday in separate cases in Blount County. Both are charged in the death of a child listed as a foster child of Mason Grimes. In a previous story, WVTM reported that court documents show the then-3-month-old child was placed in the Grimes' care on Aug. 5, 2022, where he “remained and thrived” for about a year. On Sept. 25, 2023, the child was diagnosed with “multiple congenital disorders” at Children's of Alabama, where a follow-up appointment was scheduled for Oct. 20. A month later, the child was taken to St. Vincent's in Blount County because he had stopped breathing.
