3 Chiefs starters who will sit on the bench this season

The Kansas City Chiefs are about to officially begin their attempt to win their third consecutive Super Bowl, a feat never accomplished before in league history. If they want to do that, they may have to make some brutal decisions along the way, possibly including replacing some core players.

We know that Kansas City has players who are in no danger of being benched, such as Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, but which players could actually be benched later in the season?

Whether it's due to on-field performance or off-field issues, the jobs of a number of Chiefs players could be in jeopardy come the start of the 2024 season.

As far as on-field performance goes, I don't think Rashee Rice is in any real danger of being benched. He is one of the most dynamic players the Chiefs currently have in their offensive arsenal.

However, Rice still faces eight charges from the Dallas Police, although the NFL will wait for the court case before making a decision on Rice's playing status. Whenever that happens, the league could crack down on Rice, and it might not be the most convenient time for the Chiefs.

So Rice may not be benched for performance-related reasons, but the NFL could suspend him for violating the league's conduct rules during the offseason. Rice has stressed throughout the Chiefs' training camp that he is working to be the best person and player he can be to help the Chiefs, and until the NFL decides on a next step, he almost certainly will.

But until we hear otherwise, there is still a chance that Rice will be – forcibly – benched for some time this season.
