Brown confident that the offense will get going on Saturday

CLEMSON – Clemson’s offense failed to capitalize on its offense and build momentum in last week’s loss to Georgia.

The Tigers managed just 188 yards of offense in their loss, scoring their only points on a 66-yard drive and a 26-yard field goal by freshman kicker Nolan Hauser.

After the loss, critics claimed that the talent of wide receivers Tyler Brown, Bryant Wesco and TJ Moore had been wasted.

Brown, however, isn't concerned about the number of catches he had against the Bulldogs. His focus is on the future and winning when the Tigers host App State in No. 25 Clemson's home opener on Saturday (8 p.m., ACCN).

Brown explained that he has complete confidence in his team's playmakers and that his focus is not on how many targets he has in a quarter, half or entire game.

“I focus on winning every time I step on the field, so ball contact is not a big deal for me,” he said. You know, we see a lot of guys making plays in practice and as we make progress on offense, we'll expand on that even more.”

Brown made a splash on the college football stage last season, earning ESPN's Freshman All-American honors. The Greenville native was the team's leader in both pass catches and receiving yards, and had four touchdowns and 531 yards of offense.

Although he didn't catch his first pass until the final possession of the third quarter against the Bulldogs, Brown isn't worried about his or his team's future. He believes the talented wide receivers will shine once the offense gets going.

“A lot of people doubt us. I'm just saying: don't give up on us,” he said. “We have the guys who make the game.”
