Rudy Gobert fires back at Shaquille O'Neal and calls him the “WOAT” NBA player: “It's sad”

Minnesota Timberwolves big man Rudy Gobert was not pleased about being called Shaquille O'Neal's “WOAT,” or “worst player of all time,” in an interview with his son Myles O'Neal for Complex.

And he gave his opinion on the matter.

When asked who his WOAT NBA player was, O'Neal quickly replied, “Gobert.”

Myles asked if Gobert was “worse than Ben Simmons,” to which his father again quickly responded.

“Ben Simmons is another bum,” O'Neal said. “You know why? I'll tell you. If you sign a $250 contract, [million]show me 250. There's a reason why I walk funny, why I can't turn my neck, because I played for my [$120 million].

SHAQ RESPONSES TO HIS EX-WIFE'S COMMENTS ON THEIR MARRIAGE: “HE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN IN LOVE WITH ME EITHER”

“There are guys like him who are breaking the system over there. They make so much money and they can't play a damn thing. I don't respect guys like that. Every time I make comments like that, people think I hate them.

“But these are facts. There are teachers, firefighters and doctors who have real jobs and don't earn shit.”

Gobert went to X to shoot back at O'Neal.

“Sad to see someone who has accomplished as much in both sports and business as you @SHAQ still gets provoked by someone else's finances and success,” Gobert wrote. “I understand the entertainment part but unlike other people, you don't need that stuff to stay relevant.”

Gobert's contract with the T-Wolves is worth $205 million over five years. He signed it in December 2020 while still a member of the Utah Jazz, and all of the money is guaranteed.

Prior to that contract, Gobert was a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, and last season he won the award again after averaging 2.1 blocks and 9.2 defensive rebounds per game for Minnesota.

However, this is not the first time that O'Neal has criticized Gobert. In the past, he has mentioned the “Rudy Gobert money” and said he now deserves it.

“Twelve points and eight rebounds? I could do that shit right now,” O'Neal said in March on his “The Big Podcast.”

O'Neal isn't the only one who has criticized Gobert in the NBA. In April, he told ESPN he's come to terms with being someone hated in the league.
