Weather forecast for Friday: Rain showers

A low pressure system over the northern Gulf of Mexico is bringing rainy weather to the Gulf Coast, and rain is expected on Friday. The chance of rain for Friday in the WEAR-TV area is between 90 and 100 percent. Two inches of rain is possible, with rain forecast for the morning, midday and Friday night. The wet weather may continue into Saturday. The chance of rain for Saturday is just over 50 percent, and if it rains, the majority of it will be limited to the first half of the day.

By Sunday, the probability of rain will drop to about 20 percent.

As of Thursday evening, five different areas were being monitored in the tropical Atlantic basin. One of these areas is in the northwestern Gulf. This is one of the reasons why so much rain has fallen and will fall in parts of the Gulf Coast. This weathermaker is over very warm Gulf waters at the time of hurricane season, but fortunately has a low probability of formation and will likely be just a rainmaker.

In all five areas above the Atlantic basin, the probability of formation is low.
