Marketing with 'Rizz'! Viewers are in hysterics after the mother who owns an 880-year-old B&B commissioned her Gen Z daughter to write the script for a TikTok commercial

Generation Z seems to have invented its own language these days, throwing around expressions like “kids’ summer” and “very reserved,” which confuse many members of the older generation.

When the owner of a bed and breakfast in the UK began promoting her business on social media, she asked her Gen Z daughter to help her navigate the lingo of the TikTok generation.

The owner of Fyfield Manor near Wallingford in Oxfordshire has released a promotional video on TikTok showcasing the history and architecture of the 880-year-old B&B.

However, the video contained an unusual twist – the script included slang expressions commonly used by Generation Z – defined as those born between the mid- to late 1990s and early 2010s.

The owner wore Y2K sunglasses and used phrases like “rizz,” which means romantic charm or attraction, to describe the property.

The video was viewed over 8.5 million times in two days, with one viewer calling it “the best marketing I've seen in a long time.”

The owner (pictured) of Fyfield Manor in Oxfordshire has sparked an online storm of outrage after sharing a marketing video written by her Gen Z daughter.

The video explains: “When you ask your Gen Z daughter to write the marketing script.”

The owner began the clip by highlighting the exterior of the historic bed and breakfast and said, “Our bed and breakfast is 880 years old, without a doubt.”

The colloquial expression “without a cap” is used when a person wants to express that he or she is telling the truth.

The owner continued walking through the gardens and said, “Do you see the garden? It gives relaxation, it gives zen.”

The younger generation often uses the expression “there is” to describe when something or someone gives off a certain energy.

She then added, “The medieval dining room has so much rizz.” The term rizz, internet slang for “romantic attraction” or charm, has been named Oxford Word of the Year for 2023.

According to Oxford University Press, “rizz” is defined as style, charm, or attractiveness; the ability to attract a romantic or sexual partner. Linguistic experts believe it comes from a shortened version of the word charisma.

It can also be used as a verb in sayings like “to rizz up,” which means “to lure, seduce, or flirt with someone.”

The owner continued: “The Georgian Panel Room got the job done” – a term used to praise a particular thing or person.

She continued: “Look at how much light comes in through the Victorian windows… very considerate, very attentive, very understated.”

The phrase refers to a trend that is said to have been triggered by a now viral TikTok video by American content creator Jools Lebron (known on the platform as @joolieannie).

In the clip, which has been viewed nearly four million times and liked 1.5 million times, the self-proclaimed “wild diva” encourages women to dress “modestly, modestly and respectfully” in the workplace.

The clip became a viral sensation, with Generation Z making videos saying, “very low key, very mindful.”

It seems there are no limits to what can be described as “moral and mindful,” with Generation Z using the term to glorify activities ranging from “bed rotting” (where people spend long periods of time in bed browsing on their phones) to eating chocolate cake or going for a walk.

The owner used just one word to describe the bathrooms at Fyfield Manor: “stunning” – and that is how it is described when something is done exceptionally well.

She concluded the video by saying, “Whether you're looking to unwind from a ruined summer or a stressful day, this is the place for you.”

“Brat Girl Summer” is a trend started by singer Charli XCX that is characterized by recklessness, eccentric behavior, and daring attitudes.

Brats are edgy, or to put it in the words of Charli XCX in a BBC interview: “Stupid. Just like a pack of cigarettes and, like, a Bic lighter. And, like, a white strappy top. No bra. That's pretty much all you need.”

The term “Menty B” refers to a nervous breakdown and is often used on social media.

In the caption, the owner's Generation Z daughter added, “I can confirm she didn't understand anything she said.”

The video has been viewed over eight million times and viewers flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts, with one saying: “I'm definitely booking this for my next Menty B.”

“Absolutely brilliant, I want to stay immediately to recover from my Menty B,” said a second.

Another said: “No, but it's brilliant. The juxtaposition of history and modernity. The British accent. Such good marketing.” A fourth added: “The best marketing I've seen in a long time. Very understated.”
