Online threat leads to increased police presence in local school district

Several Clark County school districts are actively monitoring an online threat targeting “Springfield middle schools.”

A post circulating on social media allegedly points to threats of a shooting at middle schools in Springfield.

Springfield City Schools' Safety Operations Manager and other district leaders confirmed the district is aware of the threat.

“It appears that several school districts in Clark County are actively monitoring the online threat targeting 'Springfield Middle Schools,'” the district said.

According to the district, the threat is circulating statewide and impacting other school districts in Springfield and throughout Ohio.

Springfield Police do not consider the threat credible at this time.

“However, to ensure the safety of our students and staff, SPD plans to increase its presence in Springfield City School District buildings today,” the district said.
