Jalen Ramsey has only played ten games for the Miami Dolphins, but the star cornerback is getting a hefty raise ahead of his second season with the club. As ESPN first reported, he agreed to a three-year contract extension on Friday that makes him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.

The new contract is worth $72.3 million, which equates to an average annual salary of $24.1 million, CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones confirmed. It comes just before that, Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II agreed to his own lucrative contract extension, which briefly made Surtain the highest-paid defensive back in league history. As ESPN noted, it also marks the second time Ramsey has been the NFL's highest-paid cover man.

Ramsey, 29, previously signed a five-year, $100 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Rams and a three-year, $55 million deal with the Dolphins upon his arrival. He is still considered one of the best players at his position, despite missing seven games in his Dolphins debut in 2023 due to a torn meniscus.

Ramsey, a seven-time Pro Bowler, had three interceptions in his abbreviated first season with Miami. He was acquired via transfer last season and spent the last three and a half seasons with the Rams, helping Los Angeles win the Super Bowl in 2021. The former first-round draft pick and Florida State star began his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
