Famous Brazilian music star Sérgio Mendes dies at the age of 83

Brazilian musician Sergio Mendes has died, TMZ learned. He died in Los Angeles.

Mendes was a world-famous Brazilian musician who played with jazz greats such as Herb Alpert And Cannonball Adderley over the course of his nearly 60-year career.

He won a Grammy Award and two Latin Grammys and was nominated for an Oscar in 2012 for the song “Real in Rio” from the animated film “Rio”.

His world-famous band Brasil '66 helped popularize Bossa Nova, a jazzy variant of samba.

The 1966 album “Herb Alpert Presents Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66” went platinum and the chart hit “Mas Que Nada” was re-recorded with the Black Eyed Peas in 2006.

Mendes was the subject of the 2020 documentary film “Sérgio Mendes: In the Key of Joy.” He began his career as a classical pianist before turning to jazz and bossa nova.

His debut album “Dance Moderno” was released in 1961, but also recordings with the jazz musicians Cannonball Adderley and Herbie Mann.

His interpretation of the Burt Bacharach Song “The Look of Love” became more popular than the Dusty Springfield Song featured in the 1967 James Bond film “Casino Royale”.

The cause of Sérgio’s death was not immediately disclosed. He leaves behind his wife, Gracinha Leporacea Brazilian singer. He also had 5 children.
