Taylor Swift literally distances herself from her Trump-supporting best friend Brittany Mahomes

Taylor Swift was spotted sitting separately from her best friend Brittany Mahomes at the Kansas City Chiefs game on Thursday after the wife of quarterback Patrick Mahomes expressed her support for former President Donald Trump.

Brittany Mahomes has been Swift's frequent companion since she began dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and the two usually sat together in the same suite at games – but Mahomes got into trouble with some Swift fans (and possibly Swift herself) after she liked a post from Donald Trump's Instagram account in which he outlined his plan to “Make America Great Again.” The plan included 20 points, such as “keeping men out of women's sports” and “cutting federal funding for any schools that espouse critical race theory.”

The backlash to Mahomes' endorsement was not long in coming (pun intended). Twitter/X users wondered “how people with kids can still vote for a known child molester/felon. I guess people like Brittany Mahomes prefer tax breaks over child safety.”

Mahomes fired back amid online jealousy over her alleged support of Trump, writing in an Instagram post: “I mean honestly, to be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep-rooted issues that you refuse to heal since childhood. There is no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate when others are doing well.”

She didn't provide any further context as to who the statement was directed at at the time, but given the fallout, she was likely trying to defend herself against critics after liking the post. Mahomes ultimately un-liked the post and doesn't follow the former president on Instagram.

But none of that stopped Trump from expressing his appreciation for Mahomes earlier this week, writing on Truth Social: “I want to thank the wonderful Brittany Mahomes for defending me so vigorously.”

Swift has not yet endorsed any candidate in the 2024 presidential race, but has criticized Trump in the past for “fanning the fires of white supremacy and racism.” Notably, however, she did not publicly object after Trump posted AI-generated images featuring Swift's likeness in fake “Swifties for Trump” posts on Truth Social last month.

It's unclear if Mahomes and Swift's relationship is currently going through a rift, but after the two spent the last few Chiefs games dancing, cheering on their loved ones, and hugging each other, and are now sitting in separate suites, it's safe to assume there could be trouble in paradise.
