Dennis Quaid has no regrets about his marriage to Meg Ryan

24 years after the end of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan's marriage, Quaid says he has no regrets about how their relationship turned out.

Quaid, 70, appeared on Friday, September 6, in the episode of Who is speaking to Chris Wallace? at Max, where he spoke to journalist Chris Wallace about his new Ronald Reagan biopic ReaganAt one point in the pair's conversation, Wallace, 76, asked the actor how the former couple's shared fame – Quaid and Ryan, 62, were married from 1991 until their split in 2000 – had put a strain on their relationship.

“How about this? When I met Meg, I was already there career-wise and she was there and then it just went from there,” Quaid said, indicating with his hands that Ryan's fame level surpassed his during their time together.

“I tried to be a big human being and tell myself that it doesn't bother me, but people are human,” he added. “She was on her way up when I went into rehab, and Meg is really such a great, sweet person and really talented and deserves all of her success. But I don't regret anything about my marriage to Meg, and we got Jack Quaid out of it, who will maybe outshine us both.”

Quaid has said in the past that he felt somewhat overshadowed by Ryan's rise to fame during their marriage, which was his second. Before Ryan, he was married to PJ Soles from 1978 to 1983 and later to Kimberly Buffington from 2004 to 2018. Quaid has been married to his current wife, Laura Savoie, since 2020.

“When we met, I was the big deal,” Quaid said of his marriage to Ryan in 2018 during an appearance on Megyn Kelly TODAY. “We went out on the streets of New York and it was 'Meg! Meg!' And I have to admit, I actually felt like I had disappeared. I didn't think I was that small, but I was. It was a chance to grow – I learned from that.”

At the time, Quaid said his marriage to Ryan was “the most successful relationship of my life.”
