“I find it so funny because don’t mothers always say, ‘You won’t understand until you have children’… and it’s nice that this has become a reality for Lydia,” said The Wednesday The star told Trey Mangum, editor-in-chief of Blavity/Shadow and Act. “I think Astrid is a little different because she has the same bitterness, but more because she doesn't want to be tied down to what her mother is tied down to.”

“She wants to be her own individual. She feels like she is constantly in her mother's shadow. She doesn't like that her mother divorced her father, she has to deal with the death of her father and is also a young person who is bullied at school,” Ortega continued. “I think she holds a lot of resentment and unfortunately blames her mother, whereas Lydia in the first [movie] is dark and serious by nature and just has that quality. Astrid is just at a loss, I think.”

what is Beetlejuice Beetlejuice about?

The film is the sequel to Tim Burton's 1908 classic, but this time Lydia (Winona Ryder) is older and has a teenage child, Astrid (Ortega). A family tragedy brings the three generations of the Deetz family together, resulting in the undead demon Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) re-entering Lydia's life.
