Joppatowne High School evacuated due to gun violence

A fight involving a gun led to the evacuation of Joppatowne High School Friday afternoon, 11 News has learned. Video above: Press conference scheduled for 2:45 p.m. SkyTeam 11 reported at 12:45 p.m. that the school was being evacuated. The sheriff's office told 11 News there was no current situation but did not immediately specify what officials were investigating. A spokeswoman for Harford County Public Schools told 11 News the following message was sent to families: “This is an important message for our Joppatowne High School community. The Harford County Sheriff's Office was called to the school today for an isolated incident on campus. A fight occurred on campus between known parties. A weapon was brought onto campus and used in the incident. The HCSO and HCPS are working together to get this information to you. Please continue to follow the HCSO Facebook page for updates on their investigation.” The county did not immediately specify the type of weapon or extent of injuries. The sheriff's office said a reunification center has been set up for parents to pick up their children at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church (622 Joppa Farm Road, Joppatowne). Harford County has set up its non-emergency information hotline (410-838-5800) for parents/guardians seeking information on their students at Joppatowne High School. Video from SkyTeam 11 showed a heavy response at the school by the sheriff's office, firefighters and paramedics from the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department.
