Former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney will vote for Harris, says Liz Cheney

Former Vice President Dick Cheney, one of the most prominent Republicans of the last half century, will cross party lines in this election and vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, his daughter Liz Cheney said Friday, claiming her father views former President Donald Trump as “a serious threat to our democracy.”

The former House member who represented Wyoming told The Atlantic reporter Mark Leibovich during an interview at the Texas Tribute Festival that her father considered this a serious moment in history.

“My father believes – and he has said this publicly – that there has never been a person in our country who poses as great a threat to our democracy as Donald Trump, and that is exactly the moment we are facing,” she said.

Earlier this week, Liz Cheney said she would vote for Harris.

According to election results, she lost her seat in the 2022 primary election to Trump-backed Harriet Hageman by more than 60,000 votes.

Cheney also made headlines on another front during her address at the festival, saying she would endorse incumbent Senator Ted Cruz's Democratic challenger, Representative Colin Allred, before November. She said one of the most important tasks in “rebuilding our politics is that we have to elect serious people.”

“You know, there are not enough good candidates. But I want to say emphatically that you have an excellent, serious candidate for the U.S. Senate here in Texas, and his name is…” Cheney began before being interrupted by applause. “Well, it's not Ted Cruz.”

“Colin Allred is someone I worked with in the House of Representatives … When you think about the kind of leaders our country needs, and when you get to this point where [how] You may not agree with every policy position, but we need people who will serve in good faith. We need people who are honorable public servants, and in this race that's Colin Allred, so I'm going to campaign for him,” she continued.
