Hazy skies sweep over Las Vegas, hot weather continues next week

Hot weather and hazy skies are forecast for Thursday and Friday.

Smoke from regional wildfires is moving into Southern Nevada this morning. People sensitive to air quality should limit their time outdoors.

You can view the current air quality by clicking on Here.

THURSDAY: Las Vegas will have hazy sunshine all day, with highs reaching around 42 degrees this afternoon, 8 degrees above normal. Breezes will increase slightly from the northeast to 10-15 mph, with wind gusts as high as 25 mph.

The heat warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday. Highs will be between 104 and 111 degrees at or below 3,500 feet. Temperatures between 111 and 115 degrees are possible along the Colorado River Valley (Lake Mead to Laughlin), and as high as 116 and 120 degrees in Death Valley. Drink plenty of water, make sure the air conditioning is working well, bring pets indoors, and never leave children or animals in a hot car.

Air quality is rated “moderate” this morning and may continue to worsen as high-altitude winds carry more smoke from the north into southern Nevada. The highest smoke concentrations are from fires in Oregon and Idaho. Pollen levels are low.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Tonight we will see a few scattered clouds with haze. Lows in the valley will drop to around 28 degrees overnight. Winds will pick up briefly this evening between 8pm and midnight. After midnight, winds from the north and east will slowly decrease to 8-16 km/h.

YOUR 7TH DAY: Similar hot and hazy weather is expected Friday, with some improvement over the weekend. Monsoon moisture will move north, bringing rain and storm chances to the region on Saturday and Sunday. The best chances for active weather will be in the mountains, with a slight chance of storms in the Las Vegas and Henderson valleys (about a 10-20% chance in the valleys). Highs will drop to just under 100 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday, with highs above 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the west valley.

Temperatures will continue to be above normal next week, with highs ranging between 39 and 40 degrees Celsius.

From Wednesday the wind will increase again and the maximum temperatures in the valleys are expected to drop to double digits by NEXT weekend.

That's still more than a week away and a lot can change, but stay here for further updates!
