Roger Goodell downplays the impact of green in a stadium where green is despised

The NFL will play its first Brazilian game in a stadium where locals detest the color green. And the NFL sent two teams to that stadium whose color scheme was green.

When Commissioner Roger Goodell appeared on CNBC this morning, he was asked how this happened.

“You try to pick the two best teams,” Goodell said. “And I think we have two rich franchises. Yes, they wear green. But I think we've put all that behind us. Everyone here understands that. I think you'll see the uniforms tonight. They're not going to offend anyone. So that's not an issue for us.”

The Eagles have opted not to wear green for tonight's game. They will wear black and white. The Packers will wear green letters and numbers on white jerseys and some green on their helmets.

This shouldn't be a problem. If international soccer teams wore red jerseys in Ann Arbor or blue in Columbus, fans probably wouldn't associate them with the rivals they hate.
