It was a golden summer for the Davis-Woodhall family.

Hunter Woodhall won gold in the men’s 400m T62 at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris on Friday, September 6, less than a month after his wife Tara Davis Woodhall won gold in the women’s long jump at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Mirroring their jubilant celebration last month, when Tara, 25, jumped into her husband's arms in the crowd at Paris' Stade de France after her victory, Hunter, 25, found his wife at the track shortly after the race and gave her a long hug.

Hunter, who had both legs amputated below the knee at the age of 11 months due to a birth defect called fibula hemimelia, also thought about his late uncle Wyatt, who died of cancer in 2021, after crossing the finish line.

After the race, Woodhall told NBC he was “waiting to wake up.”

“I have the best team in the world,” Hunter enthused. “The best team in the world. I couldn't have done it without them.”

After returning home following Tara's gold medal win on August 8, the couple basked in the glow of their achievement – they married in 2022 after meeting at a high school track and field competition in 2017.

“We've tried to do the right thing every day this year,” Hunter told CNN. “That's what we train for. There are no guarantees in sports, anything can happen in athletics. When it actually goes the way you think it will and you have that moment of relief, it's surreal. It was a very special moment.”

Tara, however, did not get carried away by the celebrations and pointed to Hunter's upcoming competitions. “We still have a lot to do,” she said.
