Here's how to watch and stream Friday's exclusive streaming game of the 2024 NFL season for free and live online without cable: Peacock

In January, the NFL surprised many people when the AFC Wild Card game was not broadcast by any major broadcaster, including ESPN and the NFL Network. Fans who wanted to see if the Chiefs would make the playoffs had to subscribe to the streaming service Peacock.

And now that the NFL is entering the 2024-2025 season, the NBCUniversal service is offering another exclusive: The second game of the season will once again be broadcast only on Peacock.

While fans might object to having to sign up to yet another service to watch the games, it may be something they'll have to get used to. The NFL was thrilled with the game's viewership numbers – and hinted that it's open to more exclusive streaming deals.

“We couldn't be prouder of our partnership with Peacock and are thrilled with the results of the first-ever live-streamed NFL playoff game,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement earlier this year. “To best serve our fans, we must ensure games are available to them as their viewing habits change, including digital distribution, as we continue to shape the future of sports and entertainment.”

Here's how to watch Friday night's game. And what to expect in terms of streaming exclusives for the rest of the season.

Which NFL teams are playing on Friday? And which channels are broadcasting the games?

Like last night, there will only be one game on Friday. (The home team will be listed second.)

Friday, September 6

Green Bay Packers vs. Philadelphia Eagles, 8:15 p.m. ET on Peacock

How can I watch NFL games for free even if I'm not in my market?

Normally we would recommend a good HD antenna here, but that won't help you for tonight's game, so you only have one option

Can I stream the 2024 NFL games live online if I don’t have a cable subscription?

Well, obviously…

peacock

Here's the good news: If you haven't used it before, you can try Peacock for free for seven days. (Though if you used this trick for the Wild Card game in January, you'll have to pay this time.) Beyond tonight, NBC's streaming service gives you access to several games, including all upcoming Sunday night matchups. Expect to pay a monthly fee of $8 or $14. (The free version of Peacock doesn't include live sports.)

Will there be more games available exclusively via streaming this year?

Yes, even several.

Amazon will again largely be the exclusive home of Thursday Night Football, with the exception of Thanksgiving (though it will air an exclusive game on Black Friday – Las Vegas vs. Kansas City). Next January, Amazon will also have exclusive rights to an NFL Wild Card game, as Peacock did last year.

On October 21, EPSN+ will exclusively broadcast a Monday Night Game pitting the Los Angeles Chargers against the Arizona Cardinals.

And Netflix will be the exclusive home movie for two Christmas Day games in December, marking the streaming service's first step into the NFL market.

Why is this game taking place in Brazil?

The NFL wants to be more than just an American sport. Brazil, with over 38 million fans, could be an important part of that international expansion, the league says. The first international game was played in Mexico City in 2005 and since then the NFL has played in several international cities, including London and Munich.

Does the NFL offer any viewing packages that will allow me to watch the games I want to see?

Yes – and they can help you with Friday's game. There are three to choose from.

NFL-App

The NFL-App allows you to stream games that are broadcast locally in your market on Sundays. If you want to watch a game “outside your market,” you have two options.

NFL+

Watch local and away games live and (with the Premium subscription) replays. Expect to pay a $50 fee per season. ($100 for Premium.)

NFL Sunday Ticket

YouTube is once again the home of this channel, with prices starting at $73 per month this year for Sunday Ticket and YouTubeTV, or $449 for Sunday Ticket only (for all non-market games this season).
