Cannabis companies fuel Amendment 3 supporters with another $11 million

A political committee leading efforts to pass a constitutional amendment to allow recreational marijuana use raised $11 million from Aug. 16 to 23, with $10 million of that coming from cannabis company Trulieve, a new financial report shows.

The Smart & Safe Florida political committee had raised a total of $82.62 million in cash since its inception in 2022, with more than $75 million coming from Trulieve.

Additionally, Verano Holdings, another cannabis company, donated $1 million to the committee on August 20, bringing the total to $3.5 million, according to its financial report.

As of August 23, the Smart & Safe Committee had spent $56.9 million.

The proposed amendment, which will be on the ballot in November as Amendment 3, states, among other things, that it would “allow adults 21 years of age and older to possess, purchase, or use marijuana products and marijuana accessories for non-medical personal use by smoking, ingestion, or otherwise.”

In 2016, voters passed a constitutional amendment allowing medical marijuana.
