Where to watch Eagles vs. Packers: Kickoff time, NFL live stream, spread, odds, prediction for the game in Brazil

The way the Philadelphia Eagles finished the 2023 NFL season, it was almost as if they needed a break, having run out of energy and enthusiasm. The way the Green Bay Packers finished, it was almost as if they were too big for the American stage and ready for an even bigger spotlight.

Now that the 2024 NFL season is underway, both the Eagles and Packers are getting what they need. And they're teaming up to open the new season in none other than São Paulo, Brazil. In a potential prelude to the NFC playoffs, the two teams are not only breaking new ground with the league's first South American clash, but also have a new chance to climb to the top of the NFL.

One side has a current MVP candidate in Jalen Hurts. The other has a current MVP pick in Jordan Love. And both dream of competing for the NFC crown. The Eagles haven't played in the Super Bowl for two years and the Packers just made a surprise push to reach the conference title game last year.

How can you be there when they meet on the world stage? Which players could be X-factors? And who will win? Here's our preview and prediction:

Where can you watch?

  • Date: Friday, September 6th | Time: 8:15 p.m. ET
  • Location: Corinthians Arena (São Paulo, Brazil)
  • Electricity: Peacock, NFL+
  • TV: NBC10 (Philadelphia), NBC26 (Green Bay/Milwaukee)

Important encounters

USATSI

  • RB Josh Jacobs (GB) vs. LB Nakobe Dean (PHI): Jacobs is the new, hard-hitting headliner of a revamped Green Bay backfield, and his tough style should be an immediate challenge for Philly's reshuffled front seven, now led by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. With Devin White out due to injury, Dean could be the Eagles' best inside linebacker, even if he's barely proven yet.
  • WR Christian Watson (GB) vs. CB Darius Slay Jr. (PHI): One of the best aspects of the Packers' offense, aside from Love's electrifying arm, is the depth of the young receiver corps. Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks are all powerful. Watson, however, is arguably the most explosive threat downfield, while Slay, at 33, is the leader of the Birds' revamped secondary.
  • C Cam Jurgens (PHI) against DT Kenny Clark (GB): Jason Kelce is no longer the center of the Eagles' line after the all-timer retired in the offseason, so it's up to Jurgens to hold his own against one of the game's best interior defenders. Of course, he'll have help from top-notch away players like Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson and Lane Johnson. But the trench warfare won't be easy.

Burning questions

  • Eagles: Can Kellen Moore take control of the offense? The new coordinator's job is to make the most of the talent around Hurts, including new running back Saquon Barkley and perhaps the best wide receiver group in the NFL thanks to AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith.
  • Packers: Can Jordan Love build on his strong finish? We have to remember that this quarterback is only entering his second full season as a starter, and he didn't really take his game to Pro Bowl levels until the home stretch in 2023. Can he maintain his ruthless approach?

Series history

The Eagles and Packers have only met five times in the last 10 years. Green Bay leads 3-2 during that time. Their last game was in 2022, when the Eagles won a 40-33 duel in which Jalen Hurts set a team record for rushing yards and Jordan Love briefly replaced the injured Aaron Rodgers.

forecast

USATSI

The neutral site is not without its problems, considering both Philly and Green Bay tend to have home-court advantage. The impact of the long trip to Brazil is another unpredictable variable. On the field, however, it could be an even harder prognosis. Love and Hurts have both shown MVP-level performances; the former has the more dynamic playmaker in head coach Matt LaFleur, while Hurts has some of the game's best playmakers around him. Both defenses, meanwhile, are in transition under new leadership.

All in all, the Eagles probably have the edge personnel-wise and it's entirely possible they can revive their title hopes from the get-go. Hurts, for one, seems particularly determined to get his winning streak back on track. But coaching is the X-factor for them and LaFleur has been the steadier hand on the other side. With a full offseason left to mold Love and his young receivers, the bet is that his group will be a little too fickle and too fast for an in-form Philly defense. Let's call it a shootout and give the Pack the slight edge.

Expected result: Packers 27, Eagles 26
