Elton John is currently recovering from a health scare that recently left him with “limited vision” in one eye.

The “Tiny Dancer” singer posted a message to his Instagram followers on Tuesday, saying he had contracted a “serious eye infection” over the summer and that he faces a long road to recovery.

“Over the summer I struggled with a severe eye infection which has unfortunately left me with limited vision in one eye,” he shared on social media. “I am recovering but it is an extremely slow process and it will take some time for vision to return in the affected eye.”

He also thanked his “excellent team” of medical staff and his family who had taken care of him “over the last few weeks”.

“I have spent the summer resting at home and am pleased with the progress I have made so far in my healing and recovery,” he added, before signing off with “With love and gratitude, Elton John.”

Many famous faces expressed their support for the legendary musician in the comments section. Food Network star Sandra Lee wrote, “Get well soon, sending love always you wonderful, wonderful man. Take care. You'll be back in no time.” Model Linda Evangelista commented with heart emojis, “Sending you love and wishing you a speedy recovery.”

Pop star Chappell Roan wrote: “We love you,” adding an emoji of a heart with a plaster on it, and Carnie Wilson wrote: “Get well soon Sir Elton. Dad and I went to see your concert together yesterday. He loved Bennie And The Jets.”

Despite his limited vision, John is expected to appear on the red carpet at the premiere of his documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late” at the Toronto International Film Festival later this week.

The documentary, which is set to premiere on Disney+ in December, follows John as he looks back on his career spanning more than five decades and also includes a new song.

“As he prepares for his final North American concert at Dodger Stadium, Elton takes us on a journey through time to share the extraordinary highs and heartbreaking lows of his early years and how he overcame adversity, abuse and addiction to become the icon he is today,” said a Disney press release.

John announced the documentary's release date to his fans in August 2024 and described the experience of filming it as “a special journey through the memories, the music and the moments that have shaped my life.”

“Over the summer I struggled with a severe eye infection which unfortunately left me with limited vision in one eye. I am on the mend but the process is extremely slow and it will take some time for vision to return in the affected eye.”

In 2019, a biographical documentary about the musician's life and rise was released, titled Rocketman, which starred Taron Egerton as John. John served as executive producer on the project and had worked for 12 years to get it off the ground before finding the perfect cast and a studio willing to buy it.

The musician announced in 2018 that he would retire from touring after a three-year world tour called Farewell Yellow Brick Road. The tour began in Allentown, Pennsylvania in September 2018 and ended in Stockholm, Sweden in July 2023, with parts of it postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I've had an incredible career. 52 years of pure joy making music. How lucky am I to be able to make music? But I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you if it weren't for you,” he said at his final concert of the tour. “You bought the singles, the albums, the CDs, the cassettes, but most importantly you bought the tickets to the shows. And you know how much I love playing live. Playing for you has been my lifeblood and you have been absolutely amazing, thank you!”

He later added: “I will never forget you guys. I've played so many concerts, how could I forget? You are in my head and my heart and my soul and I thank you so much.” The singer also thanked his friends and family for their support throughout his career.
