Flood risk until the weekend

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The risk of flooding continues to increase as heavy rain waves arrive from the Gulf.

This stormy weather phenomenon is due to a tropical disturbance over the northwestern Gulf. The National Hurricane Center has designated this as Invest 90L.

Tropical moisture associated with this disturbance continues to move into southern Louisiana. Additional heavy rain bands will move in later today and into the night. As these bands move inland, there is a potential for flooding rain to spread across the entire area.

It is not impossible that further rainfall of over 12 inches will fall in the next 24 hours.

Things will get drier late Saturday and the weather will hold through Sunday. Next week I see more tropical moisture in the Gulf and more potential for heavy rain.
