Selena Gomez on Bloomberg's richest celebrity list

Selena Gomez rose to fame as a child star on Barney and the Disney Channel. Her latest role? Billionaire.

The 32-year-old actress and singer has amassed a fortune of $1.3 billion, according to Bloomberg. has included the celebrity in its billionaire index on Friday.

The publication estimated that her wealth comes largely from her cosmetics company Rare Beauty, which she founded five years ago and in which she holds shares worth over a billion dollars.

The brand’s success made her one of the “youngest self-made rich women” on the list, alongside Taylor Swift and Rihanna.

Rare Beauty, known for its liquid blushes and lipsticks that have gone viral on social media, reported net sales of $400 million in the 12 months ended February.

According to Bloomberg, Gomez has also earned tens of millions of dollars in endorsement deals with companies such as Louis Vuitton, Coach and Puma.

She is also said to have taken home “at least” $6 million per season for her Emmy-nominated role in the Hulu hit “Only Murders in the Building,” which was recently renewed for a fifth season.

Despite her success on screen and in music – including multiple Emmy and Grammy Award nominations – those achievements accounted for only a relatively small portion of her wealth, Bloomberg said.

Gomez, born in Texas, has been in the public eye for nearly three decades, but her success has also brought criticism for her fashion, her boyfriends and her health struggles – including a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and the autoimmune disease lupus.

She has written about her family's journey from Mexico to the United States, which began with her aunt “hiding in the back of a truck” and recording songs in Spanish.

The singer became the woman with the most followers worldwide on Instagram last year.

She has more than 424 million fans on the platform, putting her ahead of Swift and Kylie Jenner – a dubious distinction for a star who discussed the negative impact of the platform on her mental health and temporarily deleted it.

The account was quiet on Friday as news of her latest award made headlines.

In an interview with BBC1 almost a decade agoMs. Gomez reflected on the longevity of her career despite her youth.

“It's funny that it's been almost two decades… am I too old?” she joked, adding that she still wants to achieve more.

“You know what's crazy? Often times I feel like I haven't even started yet,” she said.
