NFL player Roger Goodell wants to play 16 international matches per season

SAO PAULO – NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Friday he would like to see the league play up to 16 international games in a season.

“The owners have already approved eight games,” Goodell said before the first NFL game in Brazil. “I hope we can increase that to 16 at some point in the future. Let's see how that goes.”

Goodell was interviewed on Peacock before the streaming service broadcast Friday night's game between the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles, the first NFL game in South America and one of five international matchups on the 2024 schedule.

These include three games in London. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will host a game between the New York Jets and the Minnesota Vikings on October 6 and a game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Chicago Bears on October 13. The Jaguars will face the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium on October 20.

The other international game is the New York Giants game against the Carolina Panthers on November 10th at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

The NFL is planning a game in Madrid in 2025, but the date and teams have not yet been announced.

In December, owners voted to allow the league to host eight international games each season.
