Chronology of the relationship between tennis player Frances Tiafoe and Ayan Broomfield

Tennis player Frances Tiafoe found his best friend – and biggest fan – in girlfriend Ayan Broomfield when they were still teenagers.

“Man, to think how far we've come,” Tiafoe wrote on Instagram in June 2023 after Broomfield posted a series of highlights from his career that led to his recognition as a top-10 tennis player in the world.

Tiafoe recalled meeting Broomfield in 2015 at the start of his career. They were both young tennis players at the time. Broomfield eventually played at the University of California, Los Angeles, while Tiafoe entered the professional game in 2014 with his first appearance at the US Open that summer.

“You rocked with me through it all. The good, the bad and the downs,” Tiafoe wrote about his longtime love. “It's been a journey no one can put into words.”

Broomfield, a model from Canada, stayed by Tiafoe's side throughout his trip. “I'm sitting next to his mom, we're both a bit of a mess in the box and we're cheering each other on. That's not good,” Broomfield said City and country in September 2024 while attending the 2024 US Open. “We'll be kicking each other, holding hands tightly and doing our best. But it's nice to be around other people – everyone wants him to win as much as I do.”

September 2015

The couple met through a mutual friend. Two months later, they made their Instagram story public. “Great week in Boca with @ayanbroomfield,” Tiafoe wrote in December 2015. “I had an amazing time with you and I will miss you sooo much. I hope you have a great time with the family over the holidays #bae #greatgirl #can'twaittobewithyouagain.”

September 2017

“Happy 2nd anniversary my favorite girl in the world,” the professional athlete wrote on Instagram. “I can't believe it's been two years already. I hope there are many more years to come. I love you girls.”

February 2018

The couple celebrated Valentine's Day in France.

January 2019

“Happy 21st birthday my best friend,” Broomfield gushed in a tribute on Instagram.

June 2019

Tiafoe flew to Los Angeles in April 2019 to celebrate Broomfield's graduation day at UCLA, and the following month he praised her for winning the NCAA doubles title.

“Y'all are finishing your college careers like this is something special. Y'all deserve this man you've been through so damn much I know this feels sooo so good,” he wrote in May 2019. “I'll never forget this what a week. I love you sooo much I'm sooo happy for you.”

August 2020

The duo toasted on a boat with Broomfield's “Jordan Year.”

November 2021

Tiafoe was Broomfield’s date for the King Richard Premiere in Los Angeles. Broomfield portrayed Venus Williams in the actual tennis scenes of the film, while the actress Saniyya Sidney was the main Venus.

July 2022

The couple enjoyed a relaxing time in London after Tiafoe competed in both the Madrid Open and the French Open in the spring.

November 2022

Broomfield and Tiafoe flew to the Turks and Caicos Islands for a “Baecation” vacation.

June 2023

“TOP 10 IN THE WORLD! 🙏🏽🎾,” Broomfield wrote via Instagram after Tiafoe was ranked for the first time in his career. “I started taking screenshots of different moments and accomplishments a few years ago in anticipation of this day. I can't post them all but I think this tells the story pretty well. I'm so proud of you. Huge milestone and I think we can finally say #bigfoecameup.”

In the same month, Tiafoe reached the third round of the Wimbledon tournament in England, where he lost to Grigor Dimitrov in two sets. The athlete still seemed to be in good spirits as he Pink Concert with his girlfriend at the end of June.

September 2023

Tiafoe lost in the quarterfinals of the US Open against Ben Shelton. Nevertheless, he and Broomfield had a lot of fun at the tournament and spent time with Justin And Hailey Bieber.

February 2024

Broomfield and Tiafoe engaged in playful competition on the court earlier this year and documented their skills on social media. “I thought I had him 😤 @bigfoe1998,” she captioned the clip.

July 2024

Broomfield was on hand to cheer Tiafoe on at Wimbledon, where he made it to the third round, eventually losing to Carlos Alcaraz.

August 2024

“Happy birthday to my right hand…my rock…my everything,” Tiafoe captioned a series of social media photos from Broomfield's special day. “Happy 27th birthday my love, hope you enjoy the day. See you next week, I love you forever. I'm thankful for you and always proud of you.”

September 2024

The couple toasted the start of the US Open at an event hosted by Grey Goose Vodka. Throughout the tournament, Broomfield kept her fans updated on social media, including during the semifinal match between Tiafoe and her fellow American. Taylor Fritz on September 6th.
