This rumor about the color of the iPhone 16 Pro makes me sick...

I'm not a complicated person, even though my therapist (who lives in my head) says so. I like things simple and plain. I'm a guy who wears plain dark t-shirts. I don't like beers that pretend to be liquid chocolate or mango. And I think space gray is the best iPhone color.

That's why the rumor about a so-called “Desert Titanium” color for the not yet official but highly anticipated iPhone 16 Pro turns my stomach a little.

Maybe I'm just 6'2″ and have no imagination. Or maybe I have such a vision of aesthetics that I find ambrosia in a white room for my eyes. But something about this color combination with lace bothers me.

I've seen it advertised as a bronze color – which I don't mind as I'm currently trying out the rather nice Christopher Ward C63 Dune bronze watch. But that's real bronze and will develop a patina that goes from a shade a little too yellow to a warm brown.

However, in the time I've spent with the iPhone 15 Pro Max so far, I've found that its titanium body seems almost immune to smudges or marks (it's even survived some pretty hefty drops unscathed), not to mention discoloration, and that's something I miss compared to the rather nice iPhone 13 Pro.

So there's no way a bronze Desert Titanium iPhone 16 Pro will develop a patina. That means you could end up with a phone that stubbornly clings to a hue that's not the buttery yellow of caramel or the warm glow of gold (I'm of the opinion that gold iPhones should have no place on this planet), but rather something sickly in between.

Annoying Bronze

Also, bronze is the color of losers; don't @ me.

It's basically the second place medal, which to me feels like a bigger pain than just getting a ribbon or certificate to say you took part. Bronze means you tried hard but still missed out on the higher podium places. And as a former British 200m freestyle swimming bronze medalist, I know the feeling of carrying so much metal around with me.

The only exception is the bronze color of the watch mentioned above. And even that one seems a little forced with its desire to age quickly.

So yeah, I'm really not sold on the idea of a Desert Titanium iPhone 16 Pro. I reserve the right to change my mind when I see the phone in person, because I'm flighty like that. And there's more than enough room for this rumored shade to not actually see the light of day.

Apart from Desert Titanium, the other colors of the iPhone 16 Pro seem more pleasant to me. Gray, white and space black tones are to be expected. However, to my great regret, there is still no space gray.
